Creative Research & Development at Tsunami XR

You are a multidisciplinary: you provide forward-thinking counsel on the use and application of technology to tell stories and create experiences. You see technology as a means to build ground-breaking marketing opportunities and bring momentum to business goals. You inspire invention and are the architect behind bringing technology to life. You are both strategic and tactical: you build relationships with technology companies, serve as in-house expert on capabilities and requirements of emerging and established technological resources, and make recommendations for and conduct ongoing research in the creation of technology-driven experiences. Your efforts continually build and define our reputation as a leader in technology-enabled marketing.


The Creative R&D researches new technology, determines how to best apply these resources to tell client stories, works with creative and programming teams in recommending the optimal approaches for executing interactive and new media projects, builds relationships with technology vendors and supports in-house R&D efforts. This role is primarily responsible for establishing Tsunami VR as a thought-leader in the creative application of technology while enabling the internal team to execute the high-quality and innovative work that reinforces this image. 


Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Provide recommendations for optimal approaches to telling client stories through emerging and established technology and techniques, while determining how to most effectively build Tsunami VR’s internal capabilities for furthering these efforts
  • Support Business Development in proposals and pitches, with a particular focus on defining technology offered, hardware specifications, and budgets
  • Contribute to UX concept/design, creative development, discovery sessions, etc., working with creative and production teams, as needed
  • Develop short term and long-term perspective on Tsunami VR’s technological capabilities and needs  
  • Conduct regular research on emerging interactive and display technology and present technology recommendations to internal team
  • Build and maintain technology vendor relationships; oversee and regularly update contacts, capabilities, specifications and pricing information – proactively monitor vendor performance and identify new sourcing options
  • Act as a technical consultant and liaison between vendors and clients 
  • Work with Programming Department to provide technology counsel as needed
  • Produce regular content on technology trends, emerging media, client successes, and industry-based POVs and insights (white papers, website content, blog posts, case studies, etc.), in collaboration with Marketing team
  • Ensure that Tsunami VR remains a leader in providing clients with cutting-edge marketing opportunities 
  • Other duties as assigned


  • New technological capabilities such as AR, VR, holographic projection, and other Immersive and Interactive tech are researched, recommended, acquired and installed 
  • Internal R&D efforts ensure that innovative and validated technologies are offered to clients
  • Regular, high quality content is produced in collaboration with Marketing
  • Technical, production, hardware and software vendor relationships are established and new, optimized relationships are created
  • Applicable statements of work are accurately priced and well developed


  • 8+ years as Architect, Technical Director, Experiential Creative Director, Experience Director, Executive Producer or similar position responsible for leading interactive experience concept and design, digital marketing/strategy, experiential/exhibit design/production or related technology-driven storytelling endeavor
  • M.S. degree or equivalent experience in engineering, computer science, digital media or related field
  • B.A./B.F.A. degree or equivalent experience in design, film/video, architecture, fine arts or related field 
  • Demonstrated passion and curiosity for technology
  • Excellent research and writing skills, including experience writing proposals and SOWs
  • Working knowledge of touch-screen and interactive display technologies, video production, 2D/3D animation and interactive software development
  • Experience with audio and sound design is a plus
  • Must be a strong leader and teammate
  • Must be punctual, reliable, highly flexible, and excellent at balancing multiple detail-oriented projects
  • Must have excellent presentation and communication skills (written, oral, internal, and client-facing)
